Vatel Group and N.C.H.M. (MoU)
The Indian Government selects Vatel Hotel School, world
leader for the quality of its undergraduate and post
graduate programmes in International Hotel Management
In line with the tourism development of the country, the
public institutions in India for Hotel Management popularly
known as IHMs (Institutes of Hotel Management), have thought
it necessary to harmonise the Indian Hotel Management
programmes with the International standards. After having
studied several proposals, IHM has chosen Vatel, The
International Business School, dedicated to the Hotel and
Tourism sector, which has an international standing.
Here is an extract from the ‘Memorandum of Understanding’
signed between the two parties:
“Party 1: National Council for Hotel Management & Catering
Technology (NCHM), an autonomous apex organisation under the
Ministry of Tourism, Government of India...
Party 2: Vatel, The International Business School, France is
a world leader in education for International Hotel &
Tourism Management.
In view of the internationally reputed Hotel & Tourism
Management Institute of Vatel, France, the NCHM certifies
that with an objective to upgrade quality of training being
imparted by the National Council for Hotel Management
through its affiliated 26 Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs)
and upgrade professional skills of the Indian Hospitality
Industry, the NCHM has signed a Memorandum of Understanding
with the Vatel Hotel Management School, France on the 1st of
August 2006...”
To develop its hotel management programmes, the Indian
government has judged it necessary to call upon a partner
with an international reputation.
It chose Vatel, the French group, a school specialising in
International Hotel Management which has an undisputable
recognition.
- 5000 students around the world.
- 25 hotel schools spanning 4 continents
- 9000 graduates and postgraduates who hold operational and
management positions in organisations all over the world.
- An original teaching concept
This choice is based upon the success of the Vatel
philosophy. In fact the President and Founder of Vatel is
convinced that “a good theorician does not necessarily have
to be a good hotel manager. It is indispensable for him/her
to have excellent professional knowledge”. His teaching
concept is based on two big principles:
- associate the classroom teaching with the practical
applications in the training restaurants and hotels in all
Vatel Hotel Schools.
- Complete each school year with an internship in reputed
hotels (4 or 5 stars), preferably around the world.
Thus, the programmes aim to help the students achieve not
only the “savoir-faire” (know-how) but also “savoir-être” (develop
one's personality) that is so particularly important in this
profession, essential for recruitment by the large hotel
groups in India and around the world.
A memorandum to better pass on the know-how
The memorandum was signed on the 1st of August 2006 at New
Delhi by Alain Sebban – President of the Group Vatel – and
Rajeev Talwar - Additional Director General, Ministry of
Tourism, Government of India-
It defines two axes of cooperation and principally the
following points:
- The transfer of the French know-how to IHM in the field of
Hospitality Education and more particularly the expertise of
the Vatel group in the international arena;
- The terms of the partnership which facilitate access for
the young IHM graduates to the Vatel programmes and hence
allow them to prepare for not only the Indian University
degree but also for the French State degree;
- The training of Indian professors in the French teaching
methods which have proven so successful;
- The intercontinental exchange between students and
professors.
The Vatel group gives a lot of importance to this
cooperation because it reinforces its presence in India
significantly. In fact, Vatel has a permanent liaison office
at New Delhi since 1998.
Finally, kindly note that Vatel Nimes in France, welcomes
around 50 Indian students every year who prepare for the
French University Degrees : “Licence and Master de
Management du Tourisme, spécialité Hôtellerie
internationale”. Thanks to these degrees and a strong
academic programme recognised by the Hospitality
professionals, they have numerous job opportunities in India
and around the world immediately after finishing the Hotel
School.
